Overview of Robin Bates Dog Training
Robin Bates Dog Training is a well-established company that has been operating in Northern Ireland for over 20 years. The company offers dog training classes across several locations in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. However, due to capacity limitations, Robin was keen to expand his business using the franchise model.
Context & Challenges
Robin from Robin Bates Dog Training faced challenges when it came to franchising his business, as he found there was limited information available online or offline. This lack of information made it challenging for him to know how to proceed with franchising his business.
Process & Insight
The Franchise and Grow team collaborated with Robin to complete the necessary steps to assess whether the business was suitable for franchising.
This assessment allowed Robin to determine if franchising was the best option for his business.
Following this, the team then developed a SMART action plan, which included KPIs and a budget. The plan was integrated into a new business plan that projected 3-year cash flow. During this phase, a trademark check was also conducted to ensure the business’s legal protection.
A number of tasks were completed including:
- the development of the company’s Franchise Model – which is a replicable business model that can be easily transferred to franchisees. This included developing an operations manual, a training program, branding document, a marketing strategy (and website), and other materials to be used to train and support franchisees.
- Development of a Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD): The FDD is a legal document that provides potential franchisees with detailed information about your business, including your financial history, franchise fees, royalties, and other important details. You will need to create an FDD that complies with all applicable laws and regulations in your country of origin.
Development of a Franchise Agreement: A franchise agreement is a legal contract between a franchisor (the owner of a business concept) and a franchisee (an individual or business that purchases the right to operate a business using the franchisor’s brand, products, and services). The franchise agreement outlines the terms and conditions under which the franchisee is allowed to operate the franchisor’s business, including the use of trademarks, trade secrets, and other proprietary information.
The Results
Robin is taking a measured approach to launching this franchise, by utilising the company in-house team for marketing support and testing the model in Northern Ireland before expanding into further territories. This strategy can help Robin identify and address any issues or challenges before scaling up, which can increase their chances of success in new territories. Depending on the results, Robin may need to make adjustments to the business model or marketing strategy before expanding to new territories. Overall, it’s important to approach franchise expansion with a well-planned and researched strategy, and it seems like this individual is taking those steps.
